Memorial Tablet in the church: -

‘Sacred to the memory of Richard Hathornthwaite of Lower Lee, Highe r Wyersdale who died the 3rd day of December 1816 aged 86. (born 1730)
Also his sisters Elizabeth(1741) & Margaret (1743) who died 6th May 181 2 aged 71 and 5th August aged 72.

" .... I do also give and bequeath unto my two younger Daughters Eli zabeth Hathornthwaite and Margaret Hathornthwaite the Sum of three hund red pounds each, to be paid to them when they shall severally Attain th eir respective Ages of twenty one years and to each of them ten pounds y early as interest for each of their respective Legacies from the time o f my decease till payment thereof for and towards their maintenance and e ducation And in case either or both of my younger Daughters Elizabeth H athornthwaite and Margarett Hathornthwaite shall happen to die under th e age of twenty one years and unmarried then and in such case I give he r or their portione or portiones so dying equally betwixt my Son and Su rviving Daughter or Daughters share and share alike And Ido hereby c harge all my real and personal Estate with the payment of the several S ums of money Interest Annuities and Legacies aforesaid And I do hereb y direct that my said Wife Jane shall have the Tuition of my sd. Two yo unger daughters and that she shall receive the Interest of their sd. Le gacies for their Education and Maintenance during their Minority and th at her receipt shall be a sufficient discharge for the same .... "
