The last Will and Testament of me John Hathornthwaite of Forton in t he County of Lancaster Yeoman.. As to my worldly Estate I Give and Disp ose thereof as follows (to wit) I Give and Devise all my Right Tythe an d Interest of in & unto all that my Moyety of the Messuage & Lands situ ate and being in Forton aforesd and now in the possion of my Brother Da vid Hathornthwaite which was lately purchased from Robert Mason of Gars tang since deceased together also with all that Close or parcel of Land w ith the Appurtenances situate in Forton aforesd called by the Name of G ill Field unto my nephew Robert Hathornthwaite (Eldest sonn of my said B rother David) and his heires and assignes absolutely for ever. I also G ive and Devise unto my Nephew John Hathornthwaite (Second son of my sai d Brother David) all those my Lands called Winder Lands with the Appurt enances situate and being in Forton aforesd containing about four Acres h eretofore purchased by me from Wm Bell late of Winmarley and to the hei res & assignes of him the sd John Hathornthwaite absolutely for ever.
I further give and bequeath unto my Nieces Elizabeth & Mary H athornthwaite (Daughters of the said David) the sume of Five pounds api ece together with all my Linnen of what kind soever the same to be equa lly divided betwixt them, but in case of Mortality the survivor to have t he whole. I likewise Give and Bequeath unto my Niece Anne wife of Jame s Hathornthwaite of Lodge within Quarmore the sume of twenty pounds. I likewise further Give & bequeath unto my beloved Brothers Willm and Tho mas Hathornthwait the sume of twenty pounds apiece. And I do hereby Ins titute & appoint my said Brother David Hathornthwaite & the above named J ames Hathornthwaite Joynt Execcutors of this my last Will and testamt t o whome I Give and Devise all the Remainder of my personal Estate whats oever, they defraying the Expenses of my Funerall & my Just Debts (if a ny) In witnesse where[of] to two parts of this my Will both of the sam e tenor, I have hereunto put my hand & seale this twenty fourth day of O ctober Ao Dom 1727

In the name of God Amen the two & twentieth day of August in the yeare o f the Raigne of our most Gracious Soveraigne Lord James the Second King e of England or Anno Dni 1688 I John Hathornwhaite of Lancaster in the C ountie of Lancaster Woollen Draper being sicke and weak of body but of s ound and perfect memory praised be God for the same and knowing the unc ertainety of this life on Earth and being desireous to settle things in o rder do make my last Will and testamt in manner and forme following T hat is to say first and principally I commend my soule to Almighty God m y creator assuredly beleeveing I shall receive full pardon and free rem ission of all my sins and be saved by the precious death and merritts o f my blessed Savior and Redeemer Christ Jesus and my body to the earth f rom whence it was taken, to be buryed in some decent and Christian mann er as my Executor hereafter named shall thinke meete and convenient A nd as touching such worldly estate as the Lord in mercy hath sent mee m y will and minde is the same shall be bestowed as hereafter by this my w ill is expressed; It: I give to my cosen and God daughter Elizabeth Ba rton five pounds and a silver spoone in token of the love and kindness I h ave toward her; It: I give to my cosen William Barton her brother five p ounds, to mycozens James and John Barton there brothers to each three p ounds apiece; It: Igive to my brother Robt Hathornwhaite children of S corton to each of them three pounds apiece; It: I give to my sister Ha thornwhaite of Scorton, and to my sister Barton sixteen peuther dishes w hich is now in keeping of my sister Hathornwhaite at Scorton, to be equ ally devided betwixt them, and to each of them a silver spoone which I g ive them in token of the great affectionne I have towards each of them; I t: I give to my cosen William Hathornwhaite of Catshaw my Gray Mare and C oult, to his sonne John my silver tipt walking kene; to his two daughte rs twentie shillings a peece; It: I give to my Godson John Townson jun r; of Fellend twentie shillings; It: I give to my cosen Robt Deys of L ancaster ten shillings, to his sonn George Deys five shillings, to his p resent housekeeper for her care of me in my sicknes five shillings; It: I g ive to Edward Winder of Catshaw ten shillings of which fower shillings h ee is indebted to mee; It: I give to Thomas Townson of Lancaster [*inge r? sinyer?] fower shillings, to Ann Mastow of Scorton widow two shillin gs; It: I give to Willm Brockbanke of Castlehill my cussion in the Chur ch; It: I give to the poore within the parish of Lancaster fiftie shill ings And to the Poore within the Parish of Garstaine fiftie shillings. A nd after my debts and legacies and funeral expences be discharged I fre ely give and bequeath what moneys goods or Chattels doth remaine over a nd besides discharging the same unto my Executor hereafter named, And d oe hereby name and appoint my cosen William Hathornwhaite of Catshaw af oresaid my sole Executor of this my last will and testamt hopeing hee w ill honestly pforme the same as my trust is in him reposed In witness w hereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale and do hereby publish thi s to be my last will and testamt they day and yeare first above written
