Text:   Will of Thomas Hathornthwaite of Lodge in Quarmore 1731

In the name of god Amen  I Thomas Hathornethwaite of Lodge alias Scarth waite in Quermore in the County of Lancaster yeoman, being aged and inf irme in body, but of sound and perfect memory, praised be almighty god f or the same, knowing that death will come and the time uncertaine when; doe made (sic) and ordaine this my last will and testament in ma nner and forme following; revokeing and making frustrate all other will s by me made: first and principally I commend my soule into the hands o f Almighty god my heavenly father, trusting by the merits and mediation o f Jesus Christ to be saved and inherit eternall glory and my body to th e earth from whence it was first derived, to be buried in a Christian d ecent manner according to the discretion of my Executors hereafter name d. And as for my temporall estate, I doe dispose of it as followeth  Fi rst after my debts and funeral expences be paid out of the whole I give a nd bequeath unto James Hathornethwaite my oldest sonne all that ancient e state commonly called and knowne by the name of Farr Lodge, with all th e appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging to him and his heirs for e ver.  Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Hathornethwaite my second so nne all that my estate which I purchased commonly called Narr Lodge whe rein I now dwell with all the rights and priviledges thereunto belongin g, to him and his heirs for ever.  Item I give and bequeath unto my two s onnes James Hathornethwaite and Thomas Hathornthwaite all that my estat e in Caton which I purchased of William Berry together with the kilne a nd the fourth parte of the Milne thereunto belonging with all other app urtenances whatsoever equally betwixt them and their heirs for ever. It em I give and bequeath unto Jane Jepson my daughter the sume of ten pou nds a yeare dureing her natural life to be paid yearly by my executors h ereafter nominated the first payment to become due at the expiration of t welve months next after my decease, and it is my will and minde that if i t please god the said Jane Jepson my daughter have childe or children o f her body lawfully borne that my executors shall pay unto them the sum e of two hundred pounds within or about twelve months after the deth an d decease of Jane Jepson my said daughter.  Item I give and bequeath un to Isabel my now wife and Thomas Hathornethwaite my younger sonne all m y personal estate moveable and unmoveable equally betwixt them.  And I d oe hereby nominate and appoint Isabel my now wife and James Hathornethw aite and Thomas Hathornethwaite my two sonnes executors of this my last w ill and testament hopeing as my trust is in them,they will see this my l ast will faithfully performed  In witness whereof I have hereunto put m y hand and seale the 13th day of April in the year of our Lord god 1727 .
