In the name of God Amen the twenty sixth day of January in the first ye ar of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lord King James the Second in the ye ar of our Lord God One Thousand Six Hundred and Eighty Five:  I, Willia m Hathornthwaite of Abbastead in Wyesdale in the County of Lancaster Ye oman being sick in body yet whole in minde and of perfect remembrance p raised be Almighty god for the same, Doe make and ordaine this my last w ill and testament manner and forme following.  First & principally I co mmend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God stedfastly hopeing through t he meritorious death of Jesus Christ to be one of the Elect and chosen & t o rest with him in his everlasting kingdom And my body to Christian bur yall at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named  -  And as for T emporall Estate I give and bequeath as followeth, after my debts legaci es & funeral expences are discharged out of the whole I give and bequea th all my goods Cattles quick & dead Bills, Bonds Dues Debts & all my e state whatsoever equally amongst my six children viz: John, Elizabeth,D orothy, Joseph, William & James  And if any of my said Children shall d ye before the (sic) marry or accomplish their full age, then that part o r parts to be equally divided amongst the rest. And furthermore I const itute and appoint Mary my now wife to be my Sole Executrix and Thomas H athornthwaite of Quarmore my nephew I appoint Supervisor, hopeing as my t rust is in them they will see this my last will and testament performed .  In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand & seale the day and y ear first above written

Two Admons dated 24 Mar 1695

Both binding Mary Hathornthwaite. The first to look after the children’ s portion of the estate ie John, Joseph, William, James, Elizabeth & Do rithy, until they reach the age of 21 or are married, the second to dra w up the inventory etc.

Inventory of Goods as at 8 February 1685

A list of 48 items, very difficult to read, but apparently listing main ly farming equipment and livestock,  but including £69-5s in Bonds and B ills, totalling £206-5s, signed by William Hathornthwaite & JamesHathor nthwaite
