Will of Peter of Lancaster, House Carpenter, 1771

I Peter Hathornthwaite of Lancaster in the County of Lancaster House Ca rpenter do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in M anner and Form following viz
I give and devise unto my two Friends Henry Stirzaker of Lancaster afor esd Gardener and Henry Cartmell of the same place Yeoman and to their H eirs and Assigns for ever All that my Lot or piece of Ground situate an d being on the South West side of Spring Garden Street in Lancaster afo resd at the East End of the Dwelling house wherein I now live with all t he Appurtenances thereunto belonging In Trust that they the sd Henry S tirzaker and Henry Cartmell or the Survivor of them and his heirs shall a nd do with all convenient speed after my Decease absolutely sell and di spose of the said Lot or piece of Ground in such Manner as to them or t he Survivor of them shall think fit and grant and convey the Same to su ch person and his Heirs and Assigns as shall become Purchaser thereby. And it is my Will and Mind that the receipt of them the sd Trustees o r either of them shall be sufficient bequittance and discharge for the C onsideration Money thereof
I give and bequeath unto them the sd Henry Stirzaker and Henry Cartmell a ll the Houshold Goods I had at the Time of my last Marriage And also s ell my Stock in Trade to be by them sold in such manner as they shall t hink proper And from and immediately after such sale made as aforesaid I d o hereby order and direct that they my said Trustees shall pay off and d ischarge all and every of my Just Debts and Funeral Expences with the M oney arising from thence I give and bequeath unto my two Children Pe ter and Mary All those two Dwelling houses and Shop with the Appurtenan ces on the North East side of the said Spring Garden Street held by me u nder a Lease from Thomas Padget during all my Estate and Interest there in they permitting my loving wife Margaret to live in one of the sd Dwe lling houses during the sd Term on payment to them of the yearly sum of T wenty Shillings
I give and bequeath to my son Richard the Sum of One Pound And to my s on Edmond the Sum of Five Pounds to be paid to them as their necessitie s shall require at the Discretion of my Executors I give All the resi due and remainder of my Estate and Effects unto my said wife Margaret m y three Children Peter Mary and John Share and Share a like And if my w ife happen to have any other Child or Children by me such Child or Chil dren to have an equal Share thereof
I hereby appoint them the said Henry Stirzaker and Henry Cartmell Execu tors hereof In witness whereof I the said Peter Hathornthwaite have h ereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of March One Thousand Seve n Hundred and Seventy One (1771)

Admons &Inventory
There is no Inventory or Admon with these probate papers. These are pre sumably lost. An Admon would have been required to look after the inter ests of the beneficiary children, who were minors.
